How tutoring works
Getting in touch is just a conversation, not a commitment. Here’s what happens next, and what lessons are like.
From first message to regular lessons
-
Get in touch
Fill in the short enquiry form or send me a WhatsApp message.
-
We have a chat
We talk about your child, what they find tricky, and what would help. There’s no commitment.
-
A first lesson
If it feels like a good fit, we book a first lesson so your child can meet me and see what it’s like.
-
A regular slot
If it’s working well for you both, we agree a regular time that fits your week.
What lessons are like
Every lesson is 60 minutes, one-to-one. Lessons are calm, friendly and pitched at the right level, so your child feels safe to have a go.
The first lesson
The first lesson is about getting to know your child. I’ll find out what they can already do and where things are getting stuck, through activities rather than anything that feels like a test.
Regular lessons
- Small steps, with lots of encouragement.
- Linked to what your child is learning at school, so tutoring supports their class work rather than confusing it.
- Practical, hands-on activities, especially for phonics and maths.
- A quick update for you after lessons, and simple ideas for home if you’d like them.
Online or in person
In person, across Reading
I travel to families across Reading and the surrounding areas, so lessons can happen at home, where your child feels comfortable. Just tell me roughly where you are.
Online, wherever you are
Lessons over a video call work really well for many children. They’re easy to fit around family life, and I use plenty of visuals and interactive activities to keep things engaging.
For in-person lessons
- A quiet space with a table.
- A parent or carer at home for the whole lesson.
For online lessons
- A laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone. A phone screen is usually too small.
- A parent or carer at home and nearby.
